It’s 1994 in Washington, D.C., and a carbomb has been set off, killing eleven senators, and wreaking havoc on the city. Nationally renowned news reporter Jessica Lyons has been kidnapped by the self-proclaimed “eco-warriors” responsible for the act. Five weeks prior, the group also kidnapped an EPA official as a protest against water pollution. Victor, the leader of Earth Now!, has been following Jessica’s career and wants her to tell their story.

“Cat’s Paw” by William Mastrisimone is a riveting parable that pits the ambitious Jessica and the cunning Victor in a complex struggle for control. The two play a game of manipulation, flattery, and psychological brinkmanship that raises questions about ethics in the media, leaving the audience to wonder who’s using whom?

Playwright and filmmaker Rob Matsushita returns to directing for the stage, carefully crafting a “character thriller” sure to keep the audience on the edge of their seats.

Playwright William Mastrisimone (Extremities, The Woolgatherer) originally wrote “Cat’s Paw” in 1984, and rewrote it in 1994.

The cast features Patrick O’Hara as Victor, Karen Saari as Jessica Lyons, Mark Huismann as kidnapped EPA official David Darling, and Jessica Warpula as Cathy, a member of the organization.

There will be two scheduled talk-backs following performances on Friday, September 11 and again on Thursday, September 17. The director and cast will stay after the performance to discuss the play with the audience.
